Teaching Cyber Skills to Middle School Students
You can successfully teach Cyber Skills with the help of Everyday Speech! Learning an advanced conversation skill like Cyber Skills can be challenging but is incredibly important for growth, development, and safety! Everyday Speech’s Cyber Skills goal teaches nuanced digital etiquette. Learners will begin to recognize the intent of online/digital messages and craft appropriate responses while remaining stay and being responsible and respectful. 1. Introduce the ‘Cyber Skills’
Everyday Speech’s Cyber Skills focus on the importance of staying safe online while also cultivating positive experiencing when communicating with others digitally. The cyber skills include understanding that there is a time and place for when it is appropriate to communicate online and when it is better to talk in person, practicing sharing conversation and not dominating the conversation, practicing the art of thinking it or saying it, and prioritizing safety by not communicating with people we don’t know, sharing our location or personal information, or doing anything that makes us feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

3. Use Our Free Cyber Skills Activity
Our free middle school Cyber Skills activity is a question and answer worksheet called ‘Cyber Skills: Texting” For this activity, students will read each scenario and write down what text message they should send to prevent miscommunication over text.
