Teaching Self-Esteem to Middle School Students

You can successfully teach and promote self-esteem using Everyday Speech’s free self-esteem material! Positive self-esteem and self-worth encourage students to set healthy goals for themselves and to strive for overall happiness and well-being. Having high self-esteem can decrease mental health challenges, improve relationships, mitigate depression and anxiety, and even addiction.

Lesson Plan – Using Your Free Self-Esteem Material

1. Introduce the Concept: Self-Esteem

Before using our free self-esteem material with your student, introduce what self-esteem means, what it looks like, why it is important, and how it can be practiced! Learners who are confident, trust and feel good about themselves, their abilities, and their thoughts. When learners are confident they’re more likely to try new things and try again when they fail or things get challenging. Building confidence improves a learner’s self-esteem.

2. Engage in a Self-Esteem Exercise

Provide your student with the opportunity to select 3-5 things that they love about themselves and are proud of. Have your student write those things down and then tell you why they love those pieces of themselves!
