No-Prep Activity

The Color Breathing activity requires no preparation or materials, making it an ideal choice for busy educators. To begin, have your students find a comfortable position, either sitting in their chairs or lying down on the floor. Encourage them to close their eyes and follow these steps:

  1. Ask students to think of a relaxing color, such as their favorite color or a calming shade like blue or purple.
  2. Have them imagine that they are surrounded by this relaxing color, filling the air and their environment.
  3. Instruct students to take a deep breath in, visualizing the calming color filling their lungs.
  4. Next, ask them to think of a stressful color, such as bright red, that evokes feelings of tension or anxiety.
  5. As they exhale, students should visualize the stressful color leaving their body and being replaced by the calming color.
  6. Continue this process for a few minutes, encouraging students to focus on their breath and the visualization of colors.

After completing the Color Breathing activity, ask students to open their eyes and notice how they feel. This mindfulness technique can be used whenever students feel overwhelmed, nervous, or stressed.
