Ending a Conversation

A smooth ending or wind-down is extremely important when having a conversation. If a conversation ends too abruptly or lingers too long, it sends our conversation partners negative messages.

1 Show the video to your students

[SCENE 1]

Ashley: I’ve got to go, I have dance practice.

Matt: Bye! See you later.

Ashley: Bye! (leaves)

 

[FROM MY VIEW]

Ashley: (voice over) When I have to leave a conversation, I give a reason, look at my friend, and say “Bye.”

[SCENE 1 replay]

Ashley: I’ve got to go, I have dance practice.

Matt: Bye! See you later.

Ashley: Bye! (leaves)

 

[FURTHER PRACTICE]

Narrator: When we leave a conversation, we say the reason.

Ashley: I’ve got to go, I have dance practice.

Narrator: We look at the person we are talking to, and we say goodbye.

Matt: Bye! See you later.

Ashley: Bye! (leaves)
