This blog post is one in a series of entries outlining our social skills videos. Our social skills video library is up to 80 videos, each focusing on a social interaction that children and young adults has to face on a daily basis. Alessandra and Serena are talking. When Liz calls Alessandra over, Serena is left all alone. That makes her feel sad. Alessandra and Liz learn they shouldn’t leave people out. When they try again, they invite Serena along and everyone has fun.
Use Leaving Others Out
I have seen students leave others out without meaning to. The important thing to point out is no matter the intentions; people’s feelings are still hurt. Talk about what it would feel like if they were left out. You can even role play a group of people walking away from another mid-conversation. Ask how this made the student feel.
