Social Skills Video: Figures of Speech
This blog post is one in a series of entries outlining our social skills videos. When Mike tells Kate “you miss all the shots you don’t take”, she’s confused. She wasn’t even talking about basketball! Kate learns that she can’t take everything literally. She can stop and think about what Mike said, and if she still doesn’t understand, she can just ask.
Use Figures of Speech
Many students need to learn figures of speech. I like to go through a couple common ones at a time and teach them like vocabulary words. Have students practice using them on their own. Talk about what kinds of situations you would use the saying in.
